Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Zerrudo.
Wendy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started in the bridal beauty industry over thirteen years ago and it’s been a fulfilling journey. My roots are from Northern NJ where I started my career as a Makeup Artist. I’ve always had a love for painting, drawing and scrapbooking but never thought it would lead me to be a Professional Makeup Artist and owning my own business. And though I was told by family and friends that I had a niche for makeup artistry it was never my intention to pursue it as a profession.
In my mid-20’s, my life was forever changed and I delivered my sweet boy when I was only twenty-four weeks pregnant. He spent three months in the NICU and I quickly realized I was going to be a full-time mom. I scrambled for ideas on how to keep busy while being home and caring for my son. I admit I’m a workaholic! So, thinking back if I could do wedding makeup on the weekends and book by appointments on the weekdays it would be a perfect balance for me.
I was determined to conquer my goals and learn all of the techniques and tools needed to become the best Makeup Artist. I worked part-time at a MAC makeup counter and due to family priorities, I had to resign and care for my son. I then thought to myself it’s now or never and decided to start my own bridal makeup business in 2015. One bride turned into two brides, then three and on and on.
Fast forward 6 years later (2011) and we picked up our family and moved to TX. Now, I’m in a new place and I need to figure out the market, trends and network with Vendors. My husband has always been my biggest support and said if you did it before you can do it again. In a short time, I was back up and running. I later expanded my services to offering hairstyling along with makeup and it has been amazing. One of my biggest goals was to brand my own makeup line (WZ Beauty) that I retail online and in the studio. I also love to teach women how to feel and look their best and offer makeup lessons.
I’m grateful for the support and love from my family and friends. They have helped me along the way. But most importantly I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the trust and support of my past brides and clients. I pour my heart and soul into making sure that they receive the best experience and make their special day memorable. Thank you so much for allowing me into your lives. I have made so many dear friends throughout the years and some of these friendships were created through my bridal business.
Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all, I’ve hit a few bumps along the way. Starting my own business as a stay at home mom and juggling family duties and work commitments is challenging.
Managing a business alone can be a bumpy road as you continue to grow and learn from your mistakes. And being a Mompreneur is not always glamorous even if you’re a Makeup Artist. Throughout the day I wear many different hats to get the job done. Scheduling, school events, answering emails, doctor appointments, preparing dinner and booking weddings/events. And still find some time to sleep, luckily I know a few beauty tricks to make me look my best.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m the Owner and principal Makeup Artist at WZ Beauty Studio. I have a small team of professional Hairstylists and Makeup Artists and we specialize in bridal, editorial, event beauty. I also offer customized makeup classes and looking to expand this area by 2019.
I’m known for the ability to create looks that are timeless and unique to each individual by enhancing their most natural features. I get many remarks on how every bride looks like themselves and how my style varies from soft and natural too traditional and dramatic. Painting is my passion and therapy and I love to use color and blend to create the perfect masterpiece. My Stylists are just as creative with their hands and vision so together we make the perfect beauty team.
I love to connect with each and every bride and let them know I’m here when they need me from beginning to end and even well after their big day if they ever need some (Beauty TLC). At WZ beauty we deliver exceptional customer service and a relaxing ambiance. We pay attention to detail and make sure it is what you envisioned and more. We love what we do!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?

There is also a variety of creative talent around us that inspires us and motivates us to push harder. You just need to want it and work hard for it.
