Meet Whitney Nicole of Quiet But Deadly Photography in Roanoke

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Nicole.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Whitney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
When I was younger, I always enjoyed taking photos. My mom has photo albums that my grandparents kept of her and my uncle. Just seeing how she grew up via photos made me cherish this even more. With modern technology, you’re at higher risk of losing those memories. I wanted to be able to take photos to create memories for years to come, for other people.

I got where I am today because of my parents. They’ve supported me through any and everything I wanted to do in life. They have always inspired and motivated me to follow my dreams. They told me “Do what makes you happy” that’s exactly what I’ve been doing. Now, I’ve been published in a few magazines and traveling the world!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
“Nothing worth having will come easy.” In the beginning, it was a little hard getting my name out there. Being a night owl helped. When I had a 9-5 job, I would work on my website, ads, flyers also sent messages to any and everyone – AT NIGHT. I contacted everyone I knew personally & encouraged them to book and promote me. All my clients ask me “Do you sleep?’ Lol, no, I don’t. I am a perfectionist, at times. Editing, designing my websites, marketing, etc. is all done by me. I don’t sleep until it’s done and my client is happy! I know how it feels to pay for something and have to wait, make multiple phones calls, and get terrible customer service. People work hard for their money. I want them to know I have their best interest.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Quiet But Deadly Photography – what should we know?
My business is simple… I’m a traveling photographer. One of my clients told me I was “Simple, elegant and earthy” which also describes my photography work as well. I don’t talk a lot. I never have. I have a way of expressing myself without talking. I didn’t want to limit myself with one category. I encourage my clients to think outside the box and tap into their comfort zone. I am proud to own a company that offers freedom of expression. A place where you can be you or a creation of you. I am able to meet a myriad of diverse people. Being new to the industry, I still have so much to learn. I don’t think setting myself apart is important right now. I’m not in competition with other business owners… I pray we all make it.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I owe all the credit to my mom and dad. They have been supporting me before I could even walk. They are the first two people that I bounce ideas off of, talk through any concerns, etc. They will ALWAYS tell me the truth. I value their opinions. They make me feel like I just won an award & walking the red carpet. My dad is a truck driver. He has seen Gods photos first hand. He motivates me to keep doing what I love. My mom comes to all my shoots. She is MY photographer. She’s my biggest fan! I also want to give my God son’s parents credit. They’ve gotten me photography supplies I never even knew I would need. They also offer photography tips!
I will NEVER forget about my clients that I’ve worked with and referred me. Everyone that helps promote my business. I thank them for trusting the process. It doesn’t go unnoticed!
