Today we’d like to introduce you to Yas Torabi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Yas. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was always amazed by the power of social media and how you can reach so many people and share experiences. So I decided to use social media as my way to share my love for food. I started by sharing my experiences through Yelp but then expanded to Instagram and started my page, Plate Diary.
It first began as just a platform to share pictures of delicious and exciting food and restaurants. But eventually, I started using my page and my fan base for a more detailed food and restaurant review, what I love and don’t love about a specific restaurant, what dishes I recommend, etc.
Small businesses and restaurants started to recognize my page and good collaboration opportunities started to shape up.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Establishing a fan base doesn’t happen overnight! It takes a lot of effort to create good content, take high-quality pictures, and find your voice in the community. Consistency in posting content is a key success factor, that’s just hard to keep up when you have your job and family and life going on.
Please tell us about Plate Diary.
Platediary is an Instagram food/restaurant review page with the goal to share honest and transparent reviews with fans.
I think it’s a great way to share food reviews, but also promote local businesses and restaurants that are offering high-quality services and deserve to be recognized in the community. After all, we all need local support to be successful and I try hard to accomplish that through Platediary.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’d say social skills is a big factor. Being able to connect with restaurant owners, other influencers in the community, small businesses, etc. My work revolves around collaborations and social skills is a must-have.
The other one is honesty. You need to be honest and real with your fans. They’re trusting you, your reviews and opinion and you can’t break that trust.
